View Full Version : I'm starting to HATE MY DOG!!!

We got a nine-week-old Jack Russell terrier. He's awesome -- very playful, hyper, and smart. He loves my daughter and is generally WELL behaved for a breed with a somewhat bad rep for poor behavior.

HOWEVER

He does not stop f**king howling at night!! All night, he howls, barks, and cries. It sounds like someone's beating on him. He hasn't slept in three days since we got him. He's SO tired that he literally falls asleep standing up.

When we are with him, he's cool. Playful, affectionate, and sits on laps and stuff. When we lock him up for the night, he goes balls out with the crying and screaming -- I guess because he's lonely. We tried the ticking alarm clock, stuff animals, blankets, cages... nothing works.

Anyone have any suggestions for me before I punt him from the 40 yard line? I really, really, really like him a lot -- I think he's awesome -- but this howling is driving me insane and really causing some stress around the house.

just let him sleep with you. he'll be way more affectionate and care for you more. it's not like he'll take up room on the bed.

We're afraid of the shit and piss thing. I mean, he's good and goes on the paper, but we don't trust him enough to let him sleep with us or in our daughter's room.

did you try covering the cage with a blanket so it's completely dark inside? keep at it and the pup should get used to it..

Dude, we had the same issue with our Chihuahua at first, but eventually we let him sleep on the bed...REMEMBER, Dogs will never shit and piss where they sleep, so don't even worry about it.....Now, that we have a baby, we had to move him out our bedroom, but now he's 1 year old and he doesnt mind sleeping in the living room...goodluck man.

He's actually doing very good right now in the basement in his cage. I covered it up with a blanket and he's been really quiet.

good luck with the dog.. my little yokie did not want to sleep either when we got him but he had 3 different homes in under a year.. We just let him stay in bed with us at night and he is fine. He has never once piss or shit in the bedroom.. Now in other parts of the house is another story..

when we first got my dog he'd howl like no other. Then in his cage we put an old fashioned alarm clock that you could actually hear 'tick. tick. tick.' Believe it or not, it kept him quiet.
