Vt is the place to go in the East. I am going the week of Feb. 15th for 6 days. I go every year to Killington and it offers the most variety and lots of expert trails, but also a good % of intermetiate riding also. The nightlife is awesome there also.

I have also been to Stowe, good skiing, and good nightlife.
Mt. Snow is also cool. not as much partying at night though.
A bit closer to home is Stratton dowm by Manchester, about an hour closer than Killington.
Whiteface is an awesome experience and has a great village.

I think you have it mixed up..Mt. Snow has a night life, and Stowe doesn't..
Stowe is a better mountain though.

like gary said, VT is the place to be for good skiing. IMO the further north u go the better the skiing. it all depends on what your looking for, the closest place is MT snow. The skiing is decent but nothing crazy, there isnt too much nightlife there. Stowe is my favorite mountain, awesome skiing awesome snow, pretty decent nightlife, but its a trip. Killinton IMO i dont like for skiing, its too crowded and way too many of the frontside trails intersect so theres lots of traffic. If you stick to the expert trails its a lot less crowded. However killingtons nightlife is amazing. I always have a kick ass time when i go there. I'm actually going up there in 2 weeks for a weekend getaway.
there are a ton of other mountains in VT.

Let us know exactly what your looking for as far as skiing and nightlife and i'll recommend a mountain.

mt snow doesnt really have any nightlife, they have like 1 good bar there that gets crowded on a holiday weekend other than that theres nothing but a few resturaunts.

stowe has some pretty good nightlife, not as good as some other spots, but pretty decent, the town is beautiful. If you had to imagine what a typical vermont ski town was you would probably picture stowe. when theres alot of snow up there its one of the nicest places i've been.

BTW i think Vail, has the best skiing and nightlife of any ski rmountian hands down but thats in Colorado :)

Killington is cool, VERY expensive !!!

That place is a F'ing CASH COW!!

Lift tickets on weekends are up to $72 beans!

I've stayed at the Inn at the Six Mountains a couple of times.
Try and book early and try and find someone with an Entertainment Coupon Book for saving some serious $ at this lodge.

It has a pool and hot tub, pretty good restaurant and is right up the street from the Wobbly Barn - a Good steak house and nightclub.
(I've walked from the hotel to the Wobbly, but February is cold as hell, I don't recommend it!! Cabs run up and down after clubs close)

Pickle Barrel nightclub is further down the street, and it's a bit bigger (I think)

When I say nightclub, don't think NYC type, think huge FRAT house with live band and dj.

lotta cuties but lotta man meat, so go early to get first dibs!!

oh yeah, they close at 2am Sat, possibly 1am on Fridays, don't know if they changed this. last couple of times I've gone I've pretty much blacked out and forgotten most of the night!!

have fun!

That is very typical of ski towns everywhere in the US.

Ya Mt Snow nightlife near non-existence, good trails for boarding, though!

Haven't been to Stowe yet, going in a couple weeks, friends got a house up there so I have an open invite. I'll report back on that night life!

I heard Whistler/Black Comb has the most insane nightlife on the Northern continent!!
Again, I'll verify that when I hopefully go there this spring!

if you want to drive a little further and get a lot more for your money-go to Mt Tremblant in Canada. http://tremblant.com/index.htm Nice all around, I go every year, just got back a week ago. I liked Stratton in VT (owned by the same people-Intrawest). Heading to Whiteface on sun for the week-I've heard good things, but this is my first trip there.

Matter of opinion..there are plenty of places to go out in MT. Snow..I guess you just have to know where..Not a lot of restuarants though..
Killington has the best nightlife but too crowded..
If your a really good skier and are just looking to ski, go to Stowe..

Tremblant is very nice, the village at the foot of the mountain is great, has a euro-flavor, GREAT places to eat, good place to bring your significant other (romantic).....but be warned: February in Montreal/Tremblant is absolutely BRUTAL!! wind coming off the water effects all!! Major ice issues!

Exchange rate makes for a very good-buy, though

I've been to a ton of resorts on the east coast, and I will say that Tremblant was the most fun. It was the longest drive however, and of course it is in Canada so ya can't take any goodies over the border. Also, I found it annoying that some of the staff couldn't even speak english even though Tremblant is a huge tourist area. Good exchange rate though.

If you don't want to drive too far, try Stowe, Mt. Snow or Stratton. I'm actually going to Stratton for 4 days next week (haven't been in 2 years). Stratton is an easy mountain, but it mimics Tremblant-has a village, bars, and a TON of real-estate. Very built-up.

Surprisingly, I like Hunter in Albany a lot. Hunter West offers so great terrain and the lifts aren't real crowded on the weekends on the westside (highspeed quad is another story!) The lack of nightlife at hunter is a big downside, but its a great daytrip.

I'm pretty sure the only resort worth mentioning that has night skiing (outside of MC and the crappy pocono's ski areas) is Stowe. Only a few trails, but if you aren't into the bar scene it is great.
---

Sooooo, after all that I will put my vote in for either Tremblant or Stratton. Only because once you get there, you won't be in the car until its time to go. Stratton does have very easy terrain, but who cares-it sure beats a day at work!

Don't even bother trying to go on a weekend though, can you say insane?!

hehe the man is right. The west is just unreal! The east is like a bunny slope compared to it.

I've never been to bolton valley, but if your positive that its 3 or 4 miles from stowe than thats cool cause if bolton valley sucks you can head over to stowe :)

Now if you really want a trip to remember Zermatt is the place, Saas Fee is a close second. Zermatt is one of the largest Mt in Switzerland and the Expert trails and off piest skiing is like nothing else. The bars rock with chicks from all over Europe and what a difference, Last trip sent the night with a couple of girls from England and still in contact with them, the girl outnumber the guys and are very free. The bars are open almost till dawn, if you can take the stronger beer for that long.

oh, and skiing, expert trails outnumber the the rest and some awesome cliffs to pick your way down, and best of all NOOOO ICE.

You have to wear an avalanche beacon if you are going off trail an best to have a guide. This year is going to suck though with the way the dollar is doing but well worth it.

Just came back from Stowe MT. in VT., the trails were in really good shape and the pipe was kick ass.The prices of tags were the usual rip-off and lodging is about the same, but if you want to ski or board the best in the East go to Vermont.Oh by the way unless you have some good exp. stay off the diamonds my buddy was pulled down on a sled with a busted wrist.

Had a trip booked there and the hotel double booked everyone and we got bounced. 3 days before the trip we had no place to stay and the whole resort was booked solid, have heard other stories about the french resorts also. So we got an upgrade to go to switzerland and had the times of our lives.

I don't think I will be skiing france any time soon, if ever. San Moritz is very cool also,

its funny you say that! I was supposed to go on a ski trip to switzerland this year, but plans fell through. My father went to school in switzerland and he's told me tons of story's about the skiing there. me and my buddy's are probably gonna head out there in a year or two depending on our money situations. and pebbles what places are you talking about in Mt snow? What are the names of the places, i'm curious if i've ever been to any of them.

I'm not pebbles but I spend a lot of time at Mt. Snow. The key is a flask on the mountain, then cuzzins in the main lodge. Get in there by 3 or you're waiting in line. Bruce Jacques plays there friday and saturday afternoons and is hysterical... everyone gets hammered!
After that back to the house for some cocktails and a bite to eat...
Then Deacons den for an outrageous cover (actually only $10) and shitty bands (once in a blue moon there's a good one) but a lot of people and always fun!
Snow barn at the mountain can be cool sometimes but tends to have a younger crowd.
Silo is usually good and usually has a slightly more hip-hop feel to it.
For some billiards and a classic rock band check out the sanctuary, I think it's in the dover forge inn or something like that.

I've gotten hammered enough at all of these places to say I had a great time.... I think

Want the trip of your life, go to Zermat. Been there 3 times and still haven't hit all the trails. Ski down the backside and have lunch in Italy. the runs are awesome and it goes on forever. 80% of the skiing is above the treeline on the glaciers. The Materhorn is never out of sight and if you decide to go off trail there are some runs that will take your breath ( and not to mention your life) away. Have skied a few other places around europe, but always go back to Zermatt. It has something for everyone also. From intermediate, beginner to I wouldn't think of doing that.

+1 for vail, was just there last month. friend lives in avon, walking distance to beaver creek, which I also did 2 days at...

Keep in mind tho that until last weekend VT has had a pretty bad season for snow. Last weekend they got dumped on and one of the guys at work said it was great. another friend was there just the week before and said there were actually some bare spots... I believe last weekend was the first major snowfall in VT this season.

Only been to VT once (Mt Snow) and it was 50+, so there was no skiing going on, just a lot of drinking... Went up with the WRAT, so we had a nice rowdy bunch that was able to make the best out of the crappy conditions.
